TUI Marathon Kids Run UNICEF
The most anticipated moment for the young ones took place again this
year with the fun children’s race within the celebration of the TUI Marathon.
Following the success of cooperation with UNICEF Mallorca in the last edition,
this year we even extended this cooperation ensuring that children participate
for a good cause. Children from the North ran for the children from the South.
The Marathon Kids Run was in the
afternoon and we were very nervous. We were going to run the TUI marathon for
the children of Niger to help improve their lives.
First of all the youngest ones ran and after it was our turn. Our brothers and
sisters also signed up and ran in turns depending on their age. We were
watching the runners and warming up until they held up a banner calling all runners born in 2001.
It was our turn! So we headed towards the starting point. There were quite a
few runners from my class which is 5-B but I (my name is Esther) ran with Juan
and Ernesto.
We were so that nervous we could hear the beats of our hearts! As soon as we
heard the signal indicating the start of the marathon, we shot out ready for the
great race. After a while exhaustion began to take hold of us but we decided to
make an effort to continue. The second round was very tough!
We could hear shouts of encouragement and support from our parents:
- Come on! You can do it! Don’t give up!
Only one more round to go!
And they were right. On the last before the end of the race, the three of us,
exhausted, made a strong, determined and decisive sprint. Ernesto tripped but
managed to keep his balance and we kept running until the finish line. My
friend Juan was the 11th, Ernesto came 47th and I was the 9th!!
After the race, once we had crossed the
finish line and were getting our breath back, our families and friends
congratulated us for all our effort.
Later on we were told to go to the organizers’ stands to collect our medals.
It was well worth the effort to meet such a noble goal! And yet again, the
Agora Portals students were the winners in number of participants!
We would like to encourage everyone to take part next year. It is a great
experience, it’s fun and the cause which we are running for is well worth it.
