State museums received nearly 1.9 million visitors in 2011

The Secretary of State for Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports presented the report Permanent laboratory of Museum Visiting Public which analyzes and deepens the knowledge concerning visitors to state museums.

Thus, state museums have received a total of 1,883,622 visitors during 2011, which represents an increase of 13.69% regarding the previous year and a record for the number of visits since these statistics are held. The museums that have seen the greatest percentage increase in the number of visitors were the Sephardic Museum in Toledo (15.92%) and the Sorolla Museum in Madrid (14.64%), according to the Secretary of State for Culture.

The museum which receives more family visits is the Altamira Museum, the Sephardic Museum has more organized groups and the National Museum of Roman Art welcomes more visitors who are couples. These three museums are those with the largest number of visitors: 199,584 in the case of Roman Art, 265,739 in Altamira and 318,094 in the case of the Sephardic Museum.
